Some days are worth celebrating and this is one of them!

ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY

Thank you Florence Rappaport of New York.  She created ice cream for breakfast day as a way to chase away the winter blues after a big storm back in the 60’s.

It is the first Saturday in February and  is celebrated in several countries around the world including Canada, England and New Zealand.

HOW DO YOU OBSERVE ICECREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY?

Any way you want!

There are so many ice cream flavors and so many ways that you can mix them up with breakfast foods.

For example:

  1. Banana flavored ice cream mixed in with your oatmeal.
  2. Ice cream sandwich made with your favorite waffle recipe.
  3. Top strawberry ice cream with raspberries and blueberries. Add a  little granola.

MY ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST STORY

Ice cream is one of my favorite foods. When the kids and I go to the BIG E in Springfield, MA every year, we literally eat our way through it. We get there at opening and start with smoothies and then ice cream. The warmer the day, dictates how many times we return to our favorite vendor.  I could write a list of foods that we eat that could stuff an elephant.

On a day trip to Canopy Lake Park in New Hampshire we giggled our way to the ice cream stand right upon arrival at 10:00 am.  Against the better judgement of the kid’s dad. LOL.

Since we were getting so good at ice cream for breakfast, on our way home from a vacation on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH we stopped at Kellerhaus.  They have an ice cream buffet. Can you believe it?! We arrived right at opening and made ourselves ice cream sundaes for breakfast!

We all have our favorite flavors and toppings. My daughter J she sticks with vanilla. H picks out moose tracks whenever it is available. My husband is a butter pecan kinda guy (yuck) and me, anything with peanut butter, caramel or chocolate chips!

What is your favorite?

Did you know?

In Vermont a soft serve ice cream is called a creemee!

If you get to VT make sure you stop at a creemee stand and get a maple flavored! You will not regret it!
