Food 🥧Glorius 🍵Food
Even though my lifestyle has changed significantly over the years one thing that hasn’t changed is how I think about food prep.
Creating and using a meal plan is an absolute must! It takes the guess work out of knowing when to take things out of the freezer, when to use the crockpot (slow cooker) and if I should cook extra meals in advance for easy reheat.
If you are like me, leftovers are a certainty. I plan a leftover night once per week. Not only is it a budget essential, it is a space issue. Space in the fridge, and limit trash. Boats don’t always have easy access to dispose of trash.
Cooking onboard the boat has its own challenges. When we are cruising the provisioning plan is detailed and time consuming. I have to consider:
- Will we be at a dock with electricity, at anchor using the generator?
- How long between grocery runs?
- What is the distance to get to a store?
- Which ingredients will spoil first determines what I make and when.
- Don’t forget any ingredients, if I forget it I go without it.
- Where is it all going to be stored?
Years of watching & learning ...
…and experimenting is where these recipes come from. Putting a twist on a recipe that HB & I found and tried or pieced together from several different meals we have tried at friends, at restaurants, etc. Supporting my daughter’s growing interest in cooking and baking is the driving force behind developing this page. She has been experimenting in the kitchen since it was safe to do so (as young as 2 years old with supervision!) Most of what you will see here are recipes that come with the assumption that the reader is not a novice in the kitchen. As we learn and grow, we will be updating the site with more and more Cooking 101 hints & tips and cater to the novice.
